Student in Library

For students and parents

As the first AI Generation - and the parents of the first AI Generation - you will be the early-adopters of a technology that those around you will not fully understand. That is exciting, but comes with risk and responsibilities.

What's the problem?

.Students are the people most likely to be using AI at the moment. However, surveys have also shown that they are more likely to view AI as politically neutral, or as a positive force (35% vs 20% who expressed negative associations). Nearly half of students surveyed were yet to form an opinion.

Parents, however, expressed the opposite concern: they were particularly worried about the negative impacts of AI, especially in the area of education. Crucially, 60% of them had yet to hear from their schools on the subject.

We would like to help you to explore these views. We can reassure some worries and highlight hidden concerns. Most importantly, we want to help you to consider the longerterm impact of some of the decisions you are making about AI today.

Have you considered, for example, the impact on the environment of AI? What about who is accountable when AI goes wrong? Do you approve of AI's automation of jobs, and what will that mean for your own lives? Is your parents' handwringing about the impact on your relationships due to a lack of understanding of a new way of being, or is there some justification to their worry?

There's no easy answers here, but the only wrong answer is in not having the conversation.

We have a range of lessons, seminars, lectures and resources that we can offer at your school to help support you and your teachers on these topics. We also provide information presentations to parent bodies explaining some of the risks and the solutions. If you are interested in what we have to offer, have a look at the 'Training' link below and please feel free to get in touch.
